You’re Special

Pride is a two-edged sword. We need the quality of pride to realize we are unique. Pride has limits, however. When we use pride as a weapon against someone, when our pride belittles someone else, pride becomes a vice.

God made us special. Following Jesus makes us special. These were the points Jesus made in John’s gospel. These qualities do not make us different, however. We cannot nor should not use our place before God to put down others. Have a family discussion over the reading from John’s gospel with this point in mind. God loves us and makes us special, the same way he loves everyone and makes them special. Being a follower of Jesus means we realize this point and promote it. That insight makes the words of Jesus “Good News.” Believing in this Good News is something to be proud of.
